Hard Rock Casino Rockford, the latest entertainment hotspot in Forest City, witnessed an overwhelming majority of slot attendants voting to join a local union. This week, around 98% of the slot attendants at the renowned hotel and casino resort showed their support for joining Teamsters Local 325, the largest union in the United States with over 1,000 workers represented across northern Illinois.
Teamsters Now Represents Hard Rock Rockford Slot Attendants
By voting in favor of union representation, the slot attendants have now become a part of the more than 5,000 casino and gaming industry employees represented by Teamsters nationwide. Prior to this, warehouse workers at Hard Rock Rockford also voted to have union representation. Now, their fellow slot attendant colleagues will also benefit from being represented by Teamsters Local 325.
The union has a broad reach, representing not only casino employees but workers from various sectors such as the public sector, sanitation and freight drivers, clerical staff, and other essential roles in northern Illinois.
On a larger scale, Teamsters represents a whopping 1.4 million workers throughout the United States. The union operates as a democracy, where members have a say in electing leaders, setting priorities and goals, and approving or rejecting proposed contracts through a secret ballot.
Excitement Among Slot Workers and Union Representatives
Siara Raymer, a slot attendant at Hard Rock Casino Rockford, expressed her excitement about the recent development. She mentioned that the slot attendants are thrilled to be represented by Teamsters, joining their fellow warehouse and valet coworkers who are already part of the union. “We were all tired of the way things were and knew it was time to take a stand. Now, we are prepared to fight for what we deserve,” Raymer emphasized.
Teamsters’ secretary-treasurer Erick Calvert also commended the workers for their resilience in choosing to join the union family. “Despite facing an aggressive anti-union campaign, they have made it clear to Hard Rock management that they are dedicated to achieving the dignity, respect, and fair contract they are entitled to,” Calvert stated.
Last summer, Hard Rock Casino Rockford celebrated its grand opening, coinciding with its partnership with a local public transportation provider to offer convenient access to the venue for non-driving individuals.
