American Casino Giant PENN Entertainment Reports Increase in Revenue for Q1
American casino giant PENN Entertainment has released its financial results for the first quarter of the year, showing a positive trend in revenue despite facing challenges in January and February. The company’s adjusted EBITDAR also showed improvement compared to the previous year.
Financial Performance Highlights
During the first quarter of 2025, PENN Entertainment’s total revenue rose by 4.1% year-on-year, reaching $1.67 billion. This is an increase from the $1.6 billion reported in the same period last year. The company also reported a net income of $111.5 million for Q1 2025, a significant improvement from a net loss of $114.9 million in Q1 2024.
PENN’s adjusted EBITDA for the quarter was $173.3 million, up from $101.4 million in the previous year. However, adjusted EBITDAR saw a more modest increase from $154.8 million to $155.9 million. CEO Jay Snowden attributed the slower EBITDAR growth to adverse weather conditions affecting the company’s portfolio, resulting in a negative impact of at least $10 million on the metric.
The company’s diluted earnings per share also showed positive growth, increasing to $0.68 per share from a loss of $0.76 per share in Q1 2024.
Segment Performance and Strategic Initiatives
PENN reported that its Northeast, South, Midwest, and Other segments experienced varying levels of decline in Q1, while the West and Interactive segments showed growth. The company attributed the growth to strong player engagement driven by the PENN Play loyalty program and investments in hospitality and entertainment.
PENN’s differentiated omni-channel strategy also contributed to higher client spend in Pennsylvania and Michigan. The company completed a $25 million share buyback in Q1, repurchasing 1,413,882 shares of common stock at an average price of $17.67 per share. In the post-Q1 period, an additional 640,352 shares were repurchased at an average price of $15 per share.
As of March 31, 2025, PENN’s total liquidity stood at $1.5 billion, with $591.6 million in cash and cash equivalents. The company reported $2.1 billion in traditional net debt at the end of the quarter.

CEO Jay Snowden praised the execution of PENN’s strategy, highlighting the growth of the Interactive segment driven by ESPN BET and theScore BET. He emphasized the momentum in iGaming supported by the positive results of PENN’s standalone iCasino app in Pennsylvania and Michigan.
Snowden expressed confidence in PENN’s strategy to provide a personalized digital offering and achieve performance goals throughout the year. He noted the resilience of PENN’s properties despite challenges, with land-based performance rebounding in March and remaining consistent.
