MIXI Australia Seeks to Acquire PointsBet
The Australian branch of the renowned Japanese consumer technology company MIXI has made a revised offer to acquire PointsBet, presenting a more tempting price to the sportsbook. This development comes as PointsBet evaluates a separate acquisition proposition from Betr Australia.
Initial Acquisition Proposals
In February 2025, MIXI Australia had initially put forward a proposal to acquire PointsBet for an estimated AUD 353 million, equivalent to around $229 million based on current exchange rates. This offer came in response to a previous proposal from BlueBet, seeking to acquire PointsBet for AUD 340 million.
However, in April, Betr Entertainment, the company that had acquired BlueBet in 2024, presented a new offer for PointsBet, valuing the sportsbook at AUD 360 million. This proposal included AUD 260 million in cash and AUD 100 million in Betr scrip. Betr projected synergies worth over AUD 40 million annually, potentially delivering a value outcome of AUD 1.33 per share for PointsBet shareholders.
MIXI’s Revised Offer
Following Betr’s proposal, MIXI has made an updated offer for the acquisition, increasing the proposed price to AUD 398 million, equivalent to $258 million. This new proposal has been approved by MIXI’s board and is subject to approval through a Scheme of Arrangement (SOA) under the Australian Corporations Act.
A Scheme Meeting has been scheduled for June 25, with the implementation of the SOA set for July 8, pending approval. However, MIXI has mentioned that these dates could be subject to change based on various factors. The completion of the SOA will hinge on the approval of PointsBet’s shareholders and additional regulatory clearances.
Moreover, MIXI has indicated that if the SOA fails to secure the necessary approvals, they may consider an off-market takeover as an alternative approach.
PointsBet has not ruled out either proposal and has expressed interest in exploring mutual due diligence with both MIXI and Betr Entertainment. The competition for the acquisition of PointsBet continues to intensify, with multiple parties vying for the opportunity to secure ownership of the popular sportsbook.
