ASA Upholds Complaint Against LiveScore Bet for Displaying Ads to Minors
The UK’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) recently upheld a complaint regarding two ads from LiveScore Bet that were found to have appeared to minors, a violation of UK regulations on gambling advertisement.
Complaint Details and Ad Description
The complaint was in relation to two advertisements that were shown on LiveScore, a popular soccer score app, on January 10th of this year. It is important to note that while LiveScore Bet is a platform for betting, the LiveScore app is accessible to minors as well.
The first ad, viewed on an Android device, displayed live soccer scores along with the LiveScore Bet logo and an on/off toggle. Toggling the on option revealed betting odds and a link to the LiveScore Bet app.
The second ad, seen on an IOS device, featured soccer team lineups and three different odds that redirected users to the LiveScore Bet app upon clicking.
LiveScore Bet’s Response
LiveScore Betting and Gaming clarified that LiveScore and LiveScore Bet are separate products within the same family. They stated that the app was chosen as an advertising partner due to its adult audience. The company assured that the LiveScore app had age restrictions in place to prevent minors from accessing gambling content.
Despite acknowledging an issue with a historic IOS version of the app, LiveScore Bet maintained that the most recent version was functioning as intended and that they were unable to replicate instances of minors being exposed to gambling content.
ASA Ruling and Warning
The ASA verified that new users of the LiveScore app were required to select their age category and were warned about potentially unsuitable content for minors. The ASA noted that LiveScore Bet was unable to replicate the Android ad issue but saw the ad appear in the under-18 version.
While the IOS ad was deemed to have been properly targeted, the ASA still upheld the complaints, stressing that the ads violated UK regulations. LiveScore Bet was warned to ensure that such ads do not appear in the under-18 version of the app in the future.
Operators were advised to be vigilant and prevent similar issues from occurring again to comply with regulations and protect minors from exposure to gambling content.
